Project Management
The group identified project management as essential to the delivery of the project aims. The aim of every project is to reach the desired goals within the time and budget constraints defined at the beginning of the work. This project is no different and thus a number of project management processes were adapted.
The main aspects that formed the group’s approach to project management were definition of:

Project objectives, deliverables and constraints.

The roles and responsibilities of group members which were assigned to suit members abilities (see ‘The Team’ and ‘Group Structure’).

A change management process (see diagram) which was used to ensure the group was able to adapt to any unexpected developments in the project.

Schedule and timescale management processes which were used to help the group meet the project deadlines.

A budget management plan to maintain control over the expenditure of the group.
-
A communications management plan to ensure that information was effectively communicated throughout the group.
-
A risk management plan which included a risk assessment covering: general, safety, budget and timescale risks.

A quality management plan which aided the group in producing high quality results.
Aims
The ‘Design and Build a Fluidised bed for Thermal Recycling of Fibre Reinforced Composites’ project was also run in the year before the current work. Thus the project aimed to build on the previous work. The main aims of the project were as follows:

Research theory and background of fluidised bed technology.

Evaluation of the previous rig.

Re-Design of heating and air flow systems.
-
Examination of separation system technology and proposal of application to the rig.

Construction and testing of rig.
