Project Sponsorship

Malakoff Limited is a Shetland based engineering company founded in the 19th century. This long operational history has seen Shetland move through the boom and bust of local fisheries, witnessed the development of the North Sea oil industry and noted the growth of the offshore renewables sector.

In-keeping with their roots Malakoff still operate two slipways; providing maintenance, repair and chandlery facilities to local shipping. Malakoff also provide a range of general and marine engineering and fabrication services within Shetland and on mainland Britain. Recently the company has been heavily involved in the large scale renewables sector and at the cutting edge of problem solving innovations in small scale renewables.

The company have kindly agreed to sponsor the fluidised bed project by supplying the materials and fabricating the fluidised bed design produced by the team.

Malakoff Operations Manager Claire Christey said:

“We like to support students throughout their educational career and were happy to assist when we were approached by the Strathclyde Fluidised Bed Team.

Thermal recycling of composite materials is an innovative application for fluidised bed technology and may prove to be a beneficial development to the composite and renewables industries.

We are interested in any developments in these areas and wish the project team and the University of Strathclyde Advanced Composites Group good luck in the construction and operation of their rig.”
